City of Zadar
City of Zadar is a local self-governing entity in the Republic of Croatia, as defined by the Local Self-Government and Administration Act, and falls within the administrative territories of counties, cities, and municipalities. The city comprises 200 employees distributed across 13 administrative departments and offices. Its jurisdiction covers the city itself, with a population of approximately 75,000, four neighbouring settlements, and seven islands.
The City of Zadar exercises authority over various areas, including the organisation of city districts and housing, spatial and urban planning, municipal economy, child care, social welfare, primary health care, education, primary education, culture, physical culture and sports, consumer protection, protection and enhancement of the natural environment, fire and civil protection, traffic management, maintenance of public roads, construction, energy efficiency, issuance of physical planning and construction documents, and other tasks specified by relevant laws.
Actively engaged in transnational and cross-border cooperation, the City of Zadar has a longstanding tradition of collaboration with numerous foreign local governments and international organisations. Its mission is to responsibly and efficiently manage public affairs, ensuring transparency in the city government's operations aligned with the interests and needs of its citizens. Additionally, being the largest city and central hub of Zadar County, Zadar holds significant influence not only over its residents but also those in the surrounding areas.
Role within RURACTIVE
The City of Zadar contributes their expertise related to sustainable development, spatial policies and territorial cohesion. As a Dynamo, together with Urbanex, the City of Zadar will endeavour to contribute to the creation of an inclusive dialogue environment that can bring about changes in rural areas and assist the current residents in developing in a direction that meets their needs, thereby enhancing the quality of life on the islands.
