Empowering rural communities to act for change

Online webinar on post-2027 EU policies

RURACTIVE project partner AEIDL – the European Association for Innovation in Local Development – is organising the online webinar ‘Ensuring that the EU policies are (really) smart and sustainable’ on 25th of November at 9:30-11:00 CET to discuss the contribution of EU policies to sustainability practices and smart local development, in view of the new EU Political Guidelines 2024-2029 for the new EU term. The draft agenda provides further details.

The webinar is part of the Territorial Development Thematic Community of our European Local Innovation Forum (ELIF), a network of over 3,000 practitioners where AEIDL will discuss some of the findings from their existing EU research projects in view of the post-2027 policy cycle.

The event aims to provide an informal, open-ended virtual space to take stock of where we are across smart and sustainable innovation in local development in rural areas and seek what can be improved both for the present programmes and best practices but also in view of the post-2027 EU policy and funding landscape.

These discussions have already started with the Political Guidelines and will culminate with the tabling of the new Multi Annual Financial Framework in mid-2025. The meeting is particularly aimed at policymakers and experts involved in the new EU policy cycle, together with research project partners and the 3,000 practitioners that are already part of the ELIF community.

The webinar aims to:

  • Explore the consistency of the incorporation of smart development in EU policies for rural areas.
  • Assess the mainstreaming of sustainability practices across EU policies.
  • Consider the implications for 'Share their experiences' on how communities contribute to development in rural areas and identify key drivers for local action.

To animate an open-ended informal discussion AEIDL rural and territorial development policy experts will present a number of recent AEIDL Policy Briefs on these topics. Claudia de Luca from the University of Bologna will contribute on behalf of RURACTIVE and further representatives from a number of research projects, such as FUTURAL, SMART ERA, RURBANIVE or BEATLES will also be contributing.

Registration is open online.
